I believe in us

In my country we’ve got a music style called “small art”. Boudewijn De Groot is one of the biggest names in this style. I like the following lyrics because of the positive message of hope. This is a free translation as I guess that most of you who might read don’t have a clue of Dutch:

 The evening

You don’t need to put your coat on ever again

Or to hope your lights still work

Let the wind outside storm in the dark

As it is warm and light inside

We’ll watch the rain holding hands

I can see the fire of hope and doubt in your eyes

And I know your deepest fear

‘Cause you can’t be sure about everything and everything passes

But I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

And when you get up in the morning I’m with you

And I might prepared some tea

And if the sun shines we’ll have a walk in the dunes

And if it rains we’ll go back to bed

To slowly wake up, floating in time

I see the light through the curtains and I know

The past doesn’t provide any security

‘Cause you can’t be sure about everything and everything passes

But I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

I switch of the lights and it’s dark in the room
A streetlamp provides some light

And all things in the room become friends going to sleep
Chairs are waiting for breakfast

And tomorrow I’ll wake up with the smell of bread and honey

The golden sun shining on your hair

And I wish goodnight to all things in the room

Tonight we’ll sleep and tomorrow we’ll see

But the things in the room wouldn’t live if it weren’t for you

‘Cause you can’t be sure about everything and everything passes

But I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

‘Cause you can’t be sure about everything and everything passes

But I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe in you and me

The past

I had a great evening yesterday. One of my former teachers from university was retiring and I was invited to the celebrations. It was great to meet again with people I hadn’t seen in ages, to see how we all had evolved in lifes, some managing to be rather succesful professionally speaking. Most of us are married and have children… It was just great remembering the good old times… It really gave me a great boost of energy. I might be a bit of a zombie today but I don’t regret going to this celebration and reconnecting.

I found my dragon!

Last week I watched a program about Abba. Benny was asked a question about where he found so much inspiration. He told a story about a knight waiting in front of a cave for his dragon to fight it. If you wait long enough it will come and it will be surprised and you’ll get it…

I was thinking of this when I had a chat with a friend who told me she was teaching illiterate persons to read. It immediately caught my attention! I thought this might be my dragon, the thing I’d like to do in my professional life. So I started to look up some information and now I’m sure: I found my dragon! This is what I want to do. Ok, it will require some studying and I’ll have to get a new degree (I already have 3…) but if this is the thing I really want to do, it’s a small price to pay…

And suddenly, with these new prospects I fell stronger, more energetic, ready to stand my ground.

Life is starting to feel great again…

Bad working week

I’m having a bad working week. Don’t seem to be able to do anything serious. I’ll get sacked one of these days, and the worse: I don’t care… If I only knew what I want to do with my life. So many people would love to have mine and I hate it, I miss adventure, I miss passion, I miss a dream… And worse: I miss the guts to stop, quit, leave and start all over again…

What the… ?!

… hell is a dodo? Or in other terms a diricawl:

This plump, flightless bird escapes danger by vanishing in a burst of feathers. Muggles knew this bird as the “dodo” and believe that it is extinct, being unaware of its ability to vanish at will. Because this belief (and associated guilt) has spurred more enlightened attitudes toward the animal world among many Muggles, wizards have encouraged it.

Have you noticed? I’m a Harry Potter fan, but this blog won’t be just about HP, I don’t know what it will be about, but we’ll discover in due time.
